The call for applications for the GCL 2023 program will open on June 21, 2022, and close on August 19, 2022. 

GCL 2023 News:

  • GCL 2023- VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON COMBINED FORMAT: Program runs from January 23, 2023-March 31, 2023 (four weeks of virtual programming for participants to connect from their own countries, and six weeks of in-person activities at Georgetown University). Apply by August 19, 2022
  • NEW GCL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CARIBBEAN APPLICANTS (expanded eligibility to other countries in the Caribbean including Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, or Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • NEW GCL PROJECT OPTIONS (choose to work on your own or apply to be considered to support one of the 2020-2022 GCL Impact Award projects). More info will be available on the application site.

Thank you for your interest in Georgetown University's Global Competitiveness Leadership Program (GCL). 

The Global Competitiveness Leadership (GCL) is a one-of-a-kind academic and experiential leadership development program that aims to provide a new generation of emerging leaders with the essential tools and a meaningful network in order to promote competitiveness, progress, and integral development in the Latin American region. 

DATES

The call for applications for the GCL 2023  opens on June 21, 2022, at 9:00 am and closes on August 19, 2022, at 11:59 pm, Washington, D.C. time. Submit your application and all documents through this portal.

GCL 2023 Program Dates: January 23, 2023 - March 31, 2023, four weeks of virtual programming where participants join in from their own countries and six weeks of in-person activities at Georgetown University.

COSTS AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Cost/Scholarship Info

LALP offers full and partial scholarships to help offset the cost of participation (the full 10-week program is valued at $25,000 per participant). All admitted participants who receive a full scholarship are responsible for covering a one-time program fee of USD $2,500 to participate in the program. The program fee covers:

  • Program tuition for the duration of the virtual and in-person program
  • Academic materials
  • Continuous support throughout the program
  • Shared Housing (breakfast not included) for the in-person component
  • Local transportation to program activities in Washington DC
  • Basic Medical Insurance for emergencies
  • Certification of program participation issued by LALP

* All participants, are required to cover their airfare, meals and incidentals, and any other costs not included in the program fee.

Eligibility

Candidates who are citizens and residents of any of the following countries are eligible to apply for the GCL program: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti,  Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal*, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Spain*, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
(*) Qualified candidates from Spain and Portugal may apply if their projects impact the Latin American region.

  • 26 to 34 years old
  • A Latin American or Caribbean country of origin, Puerto Rico, Spain or Portugal 
  • College degree from an accredited university
  • Excellent academic record
  • Proven English language skills (reading, writing, and oral)
  • At least one year of work experience
  • Currently working on a project that creates a positive and long-lasting impact in the region
  • Commitment to return to the country of origin to apply knowledge obtained. A written agreement will be signed and submitted by the candidate upon completion of the application. Failure to comply with this agreement will result in the participant reimbursing LALP for the total cost of the program.
