GCL 2027 PROGRAM DATES 

January 11 - March 19, 2027


January 11 to February 12, 2027

 four weeks of virtual programming (in general, Mondays, Wednesdays, and some Fridays, in the morning, between 9 am and 1:15 pm EST) and one week asynchronous to get ready for travel and continue to develop their projects with mentor support


February 16-March 19, 2027

 five weeks of in-person programming, 5 days a week (Mondays through Fridays, 9:30 am –4:15 pm Eastern Standard time)

Thank you for your interest in Georgetown University's Global Competitiveness Leadership (GCL) program. 

Global Competitiveness Leadership (GCL) is a one-of-a-kind academic and experiential leadership development program that aims to provide a new generation of emerging leaders with the essential tools and a meaningful network to promote competitiveness, progress, and integral development in the Latin American region. 

COSTS AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Cost/Scholarship Info

The GCL program is valued at USD $25,000. LALP offers scholarships to admitted participants to help offset the cost of participation. In the online application, applicants will be asked to indicate whether they wish to apply for a scholarship and, if so, indicate the amount of scholarship requested and justify their financial need. 

Please note that those participants who receive the maximum level of scholarship will be required to pay a total of USD $3,500 for their participation in GCL 2027. 

The program fee covers the following:

  • 10 weeks of virtual and in-person classes at Georgetown University
  • Academic materials
  • Continuous support throughout the program
  • Shared housing (2 persons per room, apartments of up to 4 participants) for the in-person component (meals not included) - please note that all admitted participants must live in provided program housing and that housing is only for admitted participants (no guests or family)
  • Local transportation to program activities in Washington, DC
  • Basic Medical Insurance for emergencies for the in-person component
  • Certification of program participation issued by Georgetown University's Latin America Leadership Program (this is NOT a degree certificate, it does not lead to Georgetown alumni status)

* All participants, regardless of the level of scholarship received, are required to cover their airfare, meals, incidentals, and any other costs not included in the program fee.

Eligibility

Candidates who are citizens and residents of any of the following countries are eligible to apply for the GCL program: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti,  Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal*, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Spain*, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
(*) Qualified candidates from Spain and Portugal may apply if their projects impact the Latin American region. If your country is not listed here, please email lalp@georgetown.edu to discuss your case.

  • 26 to 35 years old by the application deadline 
  • A Latin American or Caribbean country of origin, Puerto Rico, Spain, or Portugal 
  • College degree from an accredited university
  • Excellent academic record
  • Proven English language skills (reading, writing, and oral)
  • At least one year of work experience
  • Currently working on a project that creates a positive and long-lasting impact in the region
  • Commitment to return to the country of origin to apply knowledge obtained. A written agreement will be signed and submitted by the candidate upon completion of the application. Failure to comply with this agreement will result in the participant reimbursing LALP for the scholarship received.
